The PLAYA St Ives is our tribute to its namesake, a beautiful town located on the western coast of Cornwall.
A subtropical oasis on British land, St Ives is home to five golden-sand beaches that border lagoon-like waters. Quaint homes and seaside restaurants add to the unique charm of the town and make it a popular summer escape; a way to find abroad at home.
Of particular note is the picturesque St Ives harbour – which served as inspiration for this latest Playa design – and around which the entire town was built. Once one of the most important landing ports in Cornwall, the harbour was a hub of commercial activity, teeming with wharfside fish markets and traders. Today the quayside still buzzes with the comings and goings of people, though there has been a shift away from fishing and towards tourism.
The St Ives shirt is designed to honour the port and its lasting influence on the city’s industry. Made from a blue-on-blue anchor-patterned peshtemal with reversible pattern on the sleeve interior, it’s a playful yet stylish summer shirt that works beyond the beach.
