The Maldives is the lowest country in the world and yet feels within touching distance of the heavens. As we journeyed across the white sandbanks of Finolhu, we were hypnotised by the surrounding lagoons. We became lightheaded and weak, but whether it was from the overwhelming smugness of our own good fortune or the intense heat of a tropical sun, it was impossible to tell. When we finally made it to the Crab Shack, we ate the finest food and drank-in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean. We had never felt so far from home, and yet like we truly belonged.
